The Smoking Dangers of Flavored E-Cigarettes
The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently warned of two new, possibly dangerous unwanted effects from e-juice – vapors and flavors. Most vaporizers use propylene glycol or distilled water to generate the flavorings. The thing is that these ingredients are also toxic when ingested. A recently published study in JAMA demonstrates that both vapors and some flavors can interfere with a person’s ability to metabolize carbohydrates and lower insulin levels in the blood. Furthermore, e-juices are usually very sweet, causing further complications in those experiencing diabetes. Juice may also contain high degrees of fructose, that may cause erratic behaviour in children and have diuretic properties.
Nicotine is the addictive element found in all e-cigs, tar, nicotine gums, along with other pharmaceutical products. This means that vaporizing tobacco can raise the risk of creating a dependence to nicotine. The increased risk is doubly heightened for young adults and middle-aged smokers that are already at risky for diabetes, high blood pressure, and other metabolic complications. It is not yet known if the increased risk of cancer will undoubtedly be exacerbated by the increased risk of diabetes.
The FDA cited the danger of nicotine poisoning as one reason it is worried about e-cigarette flavorings. Nicotine is a poison that can enter the system via skin contact, inhalation, or ingestion. This poisonous material can build-up in the body as time passes, causing damage to internal organs and resulting in death. Nicotine in addition has been demonstrated to mimic the effects of other drugs like heroin and cocaine. That is particularly dangerous because these addictive substances usually do not cause physical harm, but lead to mental stress and health complications.
Most vaporizers produce smaller amounts of nicotine. Many smokers prefer to use these devices rather than other methods of nicotine delivery, like gum or patches. Because of this the flavors usually do not add any extra nicotine to the machine, allowing people to keep their nicotine addiction in order. However, there are some disturbing trends about how e-cigarette companies are choosing to use flavorings.
One disturbing factor may be the fact that companies are including nicotine in food products, such as ice cream, cookies, and even energy drinks. The FDA will not regulate the number of nicotine present in the products, so they may contain up to five milligrams of nicotine. It is unknown whether this amount would pose a health risk for someone who is already dependent on cigarettes. A report released by the American Heart Association estimates that the common smoker is consuming about four packs of cigarettes each day, which translates to about 18 grams of nicotine.
Another danger is that vitamins and minerals found in non-flavored e-juices can actually be absorbed in to the body and provide a source of extra nicotine for vapers. Nicotine is known to have a diuretic effect on the body, causing dehydration, nausea, and other issues. A report conducted in 2021 showed that the nicotine within Vitamin E acetate–a popular e-juice ingredient–may be associated with increases in blood pressure and heart rate, which can cause potential damage to the inner organs.
Addititionally there is an increased risk of developing lung injury if you are using unflavored e-juices. Although the study did not directly connect the e-liquid to lung injury, it viewed two groups of people who used a variety of electronic cigarettes: one who had a history of chronic lung injury; and one who was a wholesome person but used flavored e-cigs frequently. The group with chronic lung injury had significantly higher amounts of vitamin e acetate in their blood compared to the healthy group.
Even though e-liquids have many potential dangers, probably the most disturbing aspect of all vapinger.com may be the fact that many e-liquids are simply sugar water. In e-juices, the artificial flavorings are added so that you can get “cooler” flavors like fruit or chocolate without paying more for it. In doing so, you’re fooling your body into believing that it is actually enjoying the candy or drink you’re trying to ingest. For the reason that the nicotine in these e-liquids is leaner than what would normally be within cigarette smoke, and therefore could cause more serious health issues as time passes than regular smoking.
